Full-Scale Blueprint Reading

This 3 day full-scale blueprint reading course is the only course you will need to take.

We get down to the nitty-gritty details and you will leave with a confident grasp of how to deal with a set of drawings.

Course Breakdown:
    Day 1 (6 hours)

  • Architectural Drawings Parts 1 & 2

Starting with the basics, you will be able to identify and define the various components found on typical blueprint drawings including: title block, revision block, notes & legend, view displayed, scale of drawings, various dimensions and grid systems.

Next we move into Lines & Views — the language of drawings. You will be able to identify and define all of the various line types and demonstrate the concept of drawing views including: top, front, side and section. In the introduction to drawing types you will be given an overview of the various drawings found in a typical blueprint drawing set. We will then move into further detail of each type of drawing.

Day 1 will end with the details of Architectural drawings, you will be able to comprehend site plans, floor plans, elevations, development permit details, and fire code compliance details.

  • Mechanical Drawings Parts 1 & 2

Beginning with a brief review of Day 1, we will then finish the details of the other types of drawings, such as: Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical. Within Civil drawings you will be able to comprehend and explain survey and drainage details.

For Electrical you will glean information on lighting, switch & outlet details and systems details.

Lastly with Mechanical you will be able to understand plumbing and HVAC details.

Commencing with a brief review of Day 2, we will finish the last drawing type which is Structural. You will be able to comprehend major structural element details, truss layout and design details, concrete cribbing details and steel reinforcing details.

Moving into the 2 part Specifications & Assemblies section, you will be able to comprehend component details, specifications and assemblies.

There will be a large review session of the past 3 days and finish up with a Final Exam.
